What Does this Mean for UCare Current Members?
If you are a current UCare Member, you may have already heard about the closure of operations in the healthcare market. This comes due to the significant strain financially UCare has endured. Certain reports even state that UCare suffered a $500M loss in the year 2024.
This has led to a deal in which Medica has acquired operations of UCare. So what does this mean for the 300,000 currently enrolled in plans through UCare?
INDIVIDUAL AND FAMILY MEMBERS
Welcome! This is not the end of the road for your health coverage. We are being told this may be a seamless transition. Current UCare enrollees will be transitioned into Medica plans. This is a trusted carrier of JHN Finance. Your plans will remain active through the 2026 Plan Year.

MEDICARE MEMBERS AFFECTED
To the 158,00 enrolled in Medicare Advantage Plans, you should immediately start planning for plan closure. According to UCare’s official website, it is noted that all Medicare plans will conclude on December 31st, 2025 and current members should start looking for new plans. With that being said, these members affected will qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) that will extend until February 28th, 2026 and you will have time to select a new healthcare plan. These members will not be transitioned like those under Individual and Family Plans.
LOGISTICS
The acquisition deal of UCare by Medica is reported to be finalized in early 2026, but the transition for plans has already been initiated for enrollees for the 2025-26 plan year. Though these plans may be sustained, current members should start to evaluate their checks and balances. If you are not “directly affected” immediately, you’re… still affected. So here some key questions to ask yourself going into the year 2026 about your healthcare if you are UCare Member:
Are my Premiums sustainable?
Am I okay with my Deductible?
Am I okay with my Copay and Coinsurance?
Am I happy with my current UCare Plan?
Am I worried about the transition?
Am I going to receive comprehensive and deliberate assistance when I need it?
If you are satisfied with the answers to these questions, great! Things are outlined perfectly for you. But if you double-take on any of these questions, it’s time to consult a professional.
